Background
Marcus has lived in Merley for the past 25 years together with his wife, Sally, who works for the NHS in Poole. Their three children grew up here and all attended local schools, including Merley First School. Recently retired, he spent more than 50 years working for a local business as a Surveyor.
Experience
Marcus has many years of experience in local government. Starting in the 1990s, when he was elected as a Borough Councillor in Christchurch and served as Leader of the council for a period. He has been a Ward Councillor for Bearwood & Merley for the past 7 years. Marcus has the skills and experience to be a strong voice for Merley. Marcus also serves as a Poole Charter Trustee. The Trustees’ role is to maintain Poole’s historic mayoralty.
He regularly volunteers with several local community organisations. Marcus is the Chair of the Poole Cherbourg Twinning Association, organising exchange visits and events. He is also part of the Merley Community Association, where he helped secure funding to improve the community centre. In addition, Marcus is part of the Merley Defibrillator Project, helping maintain the life-saving devices located at the Lantern Church and near Selkirk Close.
Community & Interests
Now retired, Marcus is enjoying spending more time with his two grandchildren and taking the opportunity to visit more National Trust sites. Whether it is supporting local groups, helping residents with issues, or campaigning for improvements, Marcus is always looking for ways to make Merley an even better place to live.
