Beaufort Road – Potholes

4 Feb 2023

Thanks to everyone who got in touch with us about the multiple potholes all the way down Beaufort Road. We have been down the road, making a note of the worst, and have reported each of them to the Council, asking for them to be repaired.

These include the top of the road, at the Southbourne Road roundabout, outside the surgery, then outside House Nos 6, 12, 26, 28, 72, 104, 118, 133, 138, 151 and 157, and at the junctions with Fenton, Amesbury, Burleigh, Inverleigh, and Cranleigh Roads.

Sadly, our experience is that the Council repairs can be very patchy, with tarmac pressed into the holes, which may not last that long, or the Council may not see the holes as bad enough to fill.

What the road really needs is substantial resurfacing. Buses and heavy vehicles use it regularly, so it gets more wear and tear than most residential roads. The problem is that the Conservative-run Council has mismanaged the budget, and has not allocated enough funds to properly maintain our roads.

We will see what happens following our report. If you would like to make your own complaint, just Google ‘BCP potholes’, and you find a link to an easy-to-use online form that will take no more than a few minutes to fill in.

In May, we will get the chance to change our councillors, and elect a Council that listens to your concerns. Until then, we will do our best to get things done on your behalf.

Take care,

Jeff Hanna and Brian Chick
