Bournemouth Liberal Democrats are taking a lead locally in the fight against cyber bullying and online "trolling".
Over recent months we have been made aware of several cases of "trolling" and online bullying. The victims of these attacks have experienced severe distress at the hands of unknown attackers and we believe it is time that law enforcement agencies began taking reports of such incidents far more seriously.
Our first advice if you have been a victim of such abuse is to report it to your local police. Under existing legislation it is already an offence to send malicious communications and instances must be reported.
Our campaign manager recently held a meeting with one of our local Tory MPs who initially pledged to raise the issue in Westminster, but has now said he does not see this as an issue for Westminster. We, however, want to keep the pressure on until we see concrete evidence of change for the better.
To help us get a clearer picture of the scale of the problem in our area we would like to hear from you if you have ever been a victim of cyber bullying or "trolling".
We would also like to share the following link in case you, or any of your family, are a child vicitim of these offences;-
