Bournemouth Pier

Bournemouth Town Centre

Making Bournemouth Town Centre somewhere to be proud of is part of the driving force behind the Lib Dem plans for three important building in our town.

Conservatives say luxury flats are what's best for the town centre

The Conservatives say the Winter Gardens should be knocked down so expensive luxury flats can be built there. There would be no extra facilities on the site - nothing to provide alternatives to pubs and nightclubs that dominate the town at night.

The Conservatives would also get local taxpayers millions of pounds into debt with a 'private finance initiative' loan for the Pavilion and the BIC.

Instead of this bleak future the Lib Dems have set about providing better value to taxpayers, making the town safer at night, and making Bournemouth a world class resort.

The Plans

Town Centre at Night

Feeling safe is important for residents and visitors enjoying our seafront and town centre. As well as re-balancing the town centre with an improved Pavilion, a new Winter Gardens arts centre and a refurbished BIC there are many other measures being taken now by the Lib Dem Council.

  • Work to end cut price drinks that promote binge drinking

  • Using the law to challenge irresponsible behaviour from pubs

  • "Pub watch" to bring together responsible pubs and clubs and give door staff quality training

  • "Safe bus" scheme to help provide a safe place to go

  • Targeted road closures to avoid accidents and crowding

  • Supporting the police in their calls for more staff, especially at night and weekends
