New Council uses possible for BCCA

3.18.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 13th Apr 2007

Latest information from Bournemouth Council indicates that a number of possible future uses for the BCCA are being looked at.

'I have been advised that a number of areas of the Council have expressed an interest in using the BCCA,' says Councillor Ben Prescott.

'This is clearly good news. I will be pushing for progress on this to ensure that the arts provision can continue.'

The uncertainty about the future of the Centre arose when Bournemouth Adult Learning announced they wanted to move their courses to other venues from July. The Council has to make best use of the money provided for these courses by the Learning and Skills Council, and BCCA was costing up to three time as much as other venues. BCCA also could not offer the modern facilities needed for particular courses.

The Bournemouth Centre for Community Arts buildings have a number of things going for them

  • good access to public transport, being a short walk from one of the top three Bus stations in the town.

  • building works to make the buildings accessible have been completed, paid for by the Learning and Skills Council.
