Adeline Road doctors' surgery has finally been given the go-ahead to relocate to Shelley Manor by the local NHS Primary Care Trust, reports Councillor Chris Mayne.

'This is great news all round. The doctors and their patients will have a modern surgery and Shelley Manor will get a secure future,' says Chris, who has been heavily involved in supporting the doctors' plans.

'On top of this, there will be community facilities as well, refurbishing the theatre. The Lib Dem Council has set aside £½ million to help make these a reality.'

Things have come a long way since Shelley Manor and the museum were closed by the Conservatives when they were last in power.

  • A plan for flats was proposed by the Conservatives, but was opposed by the Lib Dems and local residents.

  • When the Lib Dems came to power in 2003, we invested in urgent repairs and found the process which allowed the doctors' plans to be put forward.
