Tories target disabled access work for cuts!

4.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 10th Apr 2007

Work to improve facilities for disabled people should be put on hold, say Bournemouth's Tory councillors.

The shock move was put forward as part of the Conservative budget plans - to save less than a penny a day on a Band D council tax.

"This is Tory penny pinching at its very worst," says Lib Dem councillor, Andrew Garratt.

Disabled access work is not the only service under threat from the Tories.

These Tory plans would mean huge budget problems for the Council. And that means deep cuts in services and high tax rises.

These plans come from the SAME Conservative councillors who last time:

  • put up Council Tax up by nearly 50 per cent

  • left weeds growing rampantly, CCTV in disrepair, streets unswept

  • were warned by the independent auditor that the Council was 'spending beyond its means.'

Thankfully the Tory plans were voted down. But if the Tories win more councillors in the May elections these plans will become a reality.

Will you risk letting the Conservatives take charge again?
