Lib Dems back community led Winton Carnival

9.46.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 19th Jun 2006

Lib Dem Councillors are right behind the community organising the first Winton Carnival on 15th July.

'The carnival has pulled the community together, involving shop keepers, churches, residents, the police and students,' says Councillor Anson Westbrook. 'I'm proud to be associated with this event'

Winton East Councillors helped towards funding the carnival using their ward Local Improvement Fund. The fund, set up by the Liberal Democrats, was opposed by the Conservatives.

Forty groups and schools are committed, involving 20 floats, 600 participants in the parade, and over 300 on stage.

'Its also a great way to celebrate the centenary of Winton Rec., hosting thousands of residents and visitors,' adds Councillor Westbrook.

The parade will start at 10:00 at the Calvin/Wimborne Road junction. It will then turn into Cardigan, Bingham, Maxwell Roads and end at Winton Rec., where the activity will continue from 12.30 to 9pm.
