'we can't wait to make a start on the project,' says Cllr Rob Copeland

By this time next year, the pier entrance building will have been refurbished.

Work can commence now that the deadline for a judicial review has passed.

'This is fantastic news for Boscombe, and we can't wait to make a start on the project,' says Boscombe West Lib Dem Councillor Rob Copeland

'The scheme is based upon what local residents said they wanted to see at the seafront.'

The restoration of Boscombe Chine Gardens is now in its final phase, tying into the start of the seafront development so that by early 2007 the following elements will also be completed

  • overflow parking at the Boscombe end of East Overcliff Drive

  • a new land train garage will be built to the west of Boscombe pier

  • new toilets at the entrance to the Undercliff Drive.

  • the pier entrance building will be completely refurbished.

The timetable then looks like this:

  • Apr-Oct 2007 work on the end of the pier

  • Aug-Sept 2007 surf reef

  • Winter 2007/8 Refurbishment of Overstrand Building (to the east of the pier) to include changing facilities, surf school, shops and restaurant with sea views

  • Spring 2008 Final landscaping and planting

At the same time, Barratt Homes will be taking over the car park at Boscombe seafront, where they will be building 169 apartments. This scheme is funding the whole development.
