Proposals for Police powers to tell people to stop drinking

The Lib Dem cabinet has backed plans to give the Police more powers to stop anti-social drinking.

Licensees of establishments will now be consulted on the proposed Town Centre wide Designated Public Place Order (DPPO), and then the legal process to implement the order can commence.

"Following on from successful measures to tackle hot spots, these new powers will allow the Police to stop anti-social drinking before it gets out of hand," says Councillor Jean Moore, Lib Dem Cabinet Member for Community & Culture

The order will not prevent people drinking in the Town Centre, but will make it an offence to continue after being told by the Police to stop.
