Lib Dem Councillors ask for precinct patchwork explanation

5.58.29pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 13th Mar 2006

Councillors Ben Prescott and Rob Copeland have contacted officers to ask why repairs were recently done to Boscombe Precinct using tarmac.

'While we accept that there is a need to give value for money, various surfaces - including sandstone coloured paving stones - have been patched with tarmac,' says Cllr Ben Prescott

'It looks a mess'

'A recent survey of Boscombe and Springbourne, commissioned by Neighbourhood Management, highlighted the the use of materials in the area as a concern of residents'

The survey says '[a] number of different surfacing materials have been used through the area ... there does not seem to be a universal palette of materials in use.'

'We've made it clear to officers,' says Cllr Copeland, 'The Council should be able to ensure details, like the finish of public spaces, are kept to a high quality across the town. We know it matters to local people.'
